How to Play Craps for Beginners
Understanding the Basics
Craps is played with two six-sided dice. Players place bets on the outcome of the roll or a series of rolls. The game starts with a 'come-out roll.' If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, it's a win; if they roll a 2, 3, or 12, it's a loss. Any other number becomes the 'point.'
Once a point is established, the shooter aims to roll that number again before rolling a 7 to win. Players can place various bets, including Pass Line, Don't Pass, Come, and Don't Come, each with different odds and house edges.
Types of Bets
The most common bet for beginners is the Pass Line bet, which wins if the come-out roll is a 7 or 11 and loses on 2, 3, or 12. If a point is established, you can win by rolling the point number again before a 7. The Don't Pass bet is the opposite, where you win if the come-out roll is 2 or 3 and lose on 7 or 11.
Other bets include Come and Don't Come, which work similarly to Pass Line bets but can be made after the come-out roll. There are also odds bets that can be placed once a point is established, which have no house edge.
Etiquette and Tips
When playing craps, it's important to use hand signals instead of verbal commands to communicate your bets. Avoid touching the dice after they are thrown, and be mindful of the game's pace. Tipping the dealer occasionally when you're winning is a common practice. Remember, treat gambling as entertainment rather than a way to make money, as every game has a built-in house edge.
